Saturday, January 24, 2009 - Long Beach Corporate Fundraiser
What a great event! We arrived at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach at 4:00PM for a 7:00PM fun- raising event. 3 hours early you say, yeah 3 hours early because you never know about traffic and I'm not a fan of cutting it to the last minute. I'd rather arrive early and wait than leave things to the last minute. The security guard was so cool, he let us keep our van parked near the loading dock which made our load-in and out just that much easier.
In the service elevator we held the door open for one of the bartenders, and when we got out he wished us a great show. Stuff like that just feels good. We were set-up in 45 minutes and talked with the captain to plan out how we will turn the lights down o the dance floor when it's time. We checked in the our client contact. Found out she liked Coldplay and gave her a mini concert right there on the spot. People like that extra touch, and as DJ's going that extra mile is what turns our crank. It's about relationships.
We set-up our lighting, this time it was just a simple mirror ball. Our crowd was fairly conservative, ages 40 and up. The mirror ball was a great little touch to bring them back to days gone by.
During the event one of the speakers talked about waltz's, since we had an older crowd we started the music with a couple of waltz's. That was really different for us, but it was working. For me it's about the challenge of playing the perfect music to keep the dance floor going. After the waltzes we went into some Frank Sinatra and then back into some Glenn Miller. This style of music was what they wanted and I always enjoy finding what my dance floor wants and giving it to them.
I think for us, the coolest part was the last 45 minutes when almost everyone had gone but these two ladies where just having the time of their lives. They had taken their shoes of an it was almost if we couldn't play anything wrong. We played, Bette Midler "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", "Tangerine" by Lawrence Welk, "At Last" by Etta James, "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra, L.O.V.E. by Nate King Cole, and one and on and on. We even played "Last Dance" by Donna Summer, but they weren't ready to stop. What a great time I and those two ladies had. We did " Call Me Irresponsible" by Bobby Darin and the venue staff started turning up the lights. Oh man, we were still going, I played "Happy Trails" by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and then finally ended with "Hit the Road Jack" by Ray Charles, they were hysterical because of how funny that was.
It was a great evening, people asked for my business cards and my wife and I had the time of our lives playing the best music for these two last ladies who danced until the end.
It was a great night!

![]() Art and Isabel, We want to thank you for helping make our wedding so great. It couldn’t of been any better; it was exactly what we wanted and so much more. You guys blew us away, everything was perfect your equipment sounded so good. So many people at the wedding comented on the way you were so personal with everything and made the night so fun. Everyone is still talking about the Humpty dance song the our friend sang. We were both so impressed with all the extra effort you guys put in. The song selection was awesome and fit perfect. Thank you. Thank you for everything Sincerely, Brad and Courtney Daugherty ------------
From the very beginning, Art did a wonderful job
of making us feel comfortable with the services he provides. He took time
to explain what he could offer us, and in each phase of planning, ensured
that the direction we were moving in was consistent with our vision for
the day. ------------
Thank you Art!! You and Isabel made a HUGE contribution to the success of the event, everyone had such a great time singing AND dancing to the rockin’ tunes!!! Grant and I both loved the music and the narration and our names up on the wall, and Isabel was so nice to let Terri use her microphone for the line dance. Thank you so much for everything!!! Alison Kuhn -------
You guys did an awesome job! Everybody really enjoyed
themselves at our wedding, and we received many many compliments on "our
DJ". The playlist was PERFECT, and it was awesome how you were able
to set the right mood and keep the energy flowing! We would definitely
recommend your services in the future, and without a doubt love to have
you again. Chris and Jessica Leslie ------------
Art,
Thank you so much for making our wedding celebration a day to remember. We have been to weddings before were the DJ was not memorable and we have to say YOU were awesome. We have people still calling us today telling us that the wedding was the best they ever been to, and that our DJ was the best they have ever heard at any wedding. You are wonderful at what you do and you were so easy and laidback to work with that with all the other plans that go into a wedding, working with you was a breeze. We know that there was a lot of specific songs that we wanted to be played and we are so appreciative for you finding the unusually ones that we requested. We are sure we will see you again in the future. Going with Art The DJ, you just can’t go wrong.
Thank you so much,
Matthew & Marissa Veronesi
