Choosing between a Wedding DJ or a band for your reception

Since I was a drummer for 20 years before becoming a DJ in Orange County for the past 9 years I think I can offer a objective perspective.
A quality live band provides an energy that a DJ doesn't, because you can see the preformers where people usually do not watch a DJ.
A DJ is able to play any favorite song by the actual artist.
A band is only able to play the songs they have paracticed.
A DJ provides continous music from song to song.
A band has time in between the songs where there is no dancing.
A quality DJ is able to provide all of the emcee duties.
A bans is only going to play songs that are within the range of its musicians.
A DJ is going to be able to handle a wide range of musical requests.
A band is going to take more flooe space at the reception.
A DJ is able to control the volume of the music during, cocktails and dinner.
A band is going to take breaks.
A DJ doesn't take breaks.
My overall take is that a quality DJ/Emcee is going to play all of your requests while handling all of the Emcee duties such as:
If you want popular music such as hip-hop, I have never seen a band perform the wide range of music on request that a DJ is able to.
|  This is the second year we have worked with Art the DJ. His professionalism, flexibility, and resources make him our first choice whenever we need to generate employee excitement at our meetings. We look forward to many more successful events because of Art the DJ.

Art was top-notch! He was entirely self-contained (had generator, speakers, microphones, etc…), read the crowd and tailored the music as the day evolved from athletic events to a post-event cocktail hour, and had a great attitude all day.
