Fundraisers

Most fund raisers are built around a dinner so usually I would start off with light jazz during the cocktail/reception hour and continue through dinner. I can provide several microphones if needed, one of which can be a hand-held wireless. Typically I don't act as an Emcee for a fundraiser since the organization usually has key people that handle this task.

During an auction/raffle I usually don't play any background music but I can if so desired. After all the formalities are finished we invite everyone to the dance floor with genera's of music that have been pre-selected. Probably the most common are, classic rock, a small sampling of swing, traditional ballads for slow songs and a healthy dose of disco and pop from the 70's and 80's. Artist's like Billy Idol, Tommy Tutone, B-52's, The Romantics, Soft Cell, Michael Jackson and Madonna are typically received well for Rock and roll/Pop. I would mix in disco artists like, K. C. & the Sunshine Band, Kool & the Gang, Cheryl Lynn, Chic and Donna Summer.

Again I approach a fund raiser like any other type of event and plan ahead of time with the host organization what songs or styles are to be played. We can also have a list of songs not to be played if so desired. Because I work off of a lap-top connected to a song library of 24,000+ songs I can respond to requests from guests very easily. I do not display any personal banners and discuss appropriate attire prior to the event. Unless the event is a theme, I normally wear a tuxedo.

Art,
You and your wife did a wonderful job entertaining the friends and family at the reception. I'm pleased to hear that people were still dancing till the end. Heather and I had a great day on Saturday and couldn't ask for anything more.
